Parabola in Terms of Focus and Directrix

Download Geometry Expressions File

Given a point (the focus) and a line (the directrix), a parabola can be defined as the locus of the points whose distance from the focus is equal to their perpendicular distance from the directrix.

From the definition, it is clear that the vertex lies half way between the focus and the directrix.
